Our Focus Areas

Gender?

At My Body, we believe that fulfilling the sexual and reproductive health rights of marginalized women and girls particularly, is essential in achieving better health outcomes and a more gender equitable society. The realization of this, requires integration of gender equality in programming, and development of tools that understand the influence of gender inequality on sexual and reproductive health. Women and girls have the right to have control of their sexual and reproductive health and lives, by making their own informed choices free from coercion, violence, discrimination and abuse. However, these rights are often violated due to discriminatory social norms that inhibit women from making their own decisions in relation to their sexual and reproductive health. They are often denied access to quality sexual and reproductive health information and services thus making them vulnerable to unplanned and unwanted pregnancies as well as to sexually transmitted infections and diseases. Social norms subject women and girls to sexual violence, coerced sex, and harmful practices like female genital mutilation which violate their human rights. We therefore advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights of marginalized women and girls to prevent unintended pregnancies, improve maternal health, and prevent STIs including HIV/AIDS.

Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.?

SRHR is a fundamental human right, and we work towards ensuring that marginalized women and girls have access to the information, services, and products they need to make informed choices about their bodies and lives. Our programs focus on providing education, resources, and support related to contraception, maternal health, and safe abortion, as well as addressing gender-based violence, harmful traditional practices and challenging taboos.

Intersectionality?

Our work recognizes that experiences of discrimination, marginalization and violence are intersectional, and can vary depending on factors such as gender, race, class, sexuality, ability, and age. We work to understand and address the ways in which these intersections shape the experiences of marginalized women and girls, and to ensure that our programs are inclusive, intersectional and responsive to the diverse needs of our community.
